100 Things About Me

1.         I reached my current height (about 5’9) in junior high.  I was taller than everyone in my class except for one boy.

2.         I like vegetables better than fruits.

3.         My favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on the couch, watching a movie with my husband.

4.         I think my dog is the smartest, cutest, best dog ever.

5.         When I got married, I kept my middle name (Kristin) instead of my maiden name (Johnson).

6.         I love Diet Coke.  A lot. 

7.         And coffee.

8.         I’m a fast reader.  If I have the time and inclination, I can read hundreds of pages a day.

9.         I love to knit, but I’m a much better project starter than finisher.

10.     I’m very cold natured.  I pretty much always have to have a sweater.

11.     Summer is my favorite season.

12.     I’m a pretty messy person.  I try to be better, but I’m one of those people that when I’m done with something, I drop it wherever I happen to be.  And leave it.  I’m working on that.

13.     I’m allergic to cats, but I didn’t used to be.

14.     I’m not allergic to dogs, but I used to be.

15.     I only have one first cousin.

16.     I tend to be a little OCD about leaving electrical items, such as space heaters, on.  I usually triple check that I have turned them off.

17.     I have a degree in speech therapy that I’ve never used.

18.     I used to be a directory assistance (411) operator; I quit when I got a suicide call.

19.     It gave me tendonitis in my right arm, which still acts up if I use the computer or knit for too long.

20.     I met my husband at a wedding.  He was a groomsman and caught the garter. 

21.     I think gay marriage should be legalized.

22.     I can list all the “helping” verbs from memory – be, am, is, are, was, were, been, have, has, had, do, does, did, may, might, can, could, must, shall, will, should, would.

23.     I’m very bad at math.

24.     My favorite vacation was when Bobby and I went to England two years ago.

25.     I tan easily.

26.     I can’t throw away yarn.  I can have one yard left of a ball, and I still keep it just in case.

27.     I’m not a huge chocolate lover.  I like it, and if it’s around, I’ll eat it, but I don’t crave it.

28.     I got my first gray hair in my early twenties.

29.     I’ve broken my foot once and sprained my ankle twice.

30.     I love all of Joss Whedon’s shows – Buffy, Angel, Firefly – all of them.

31.     I can’t decide if my favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird or Pride and Prejudice.

32.     Lazy grammar and spelling piss me off.

33.     I don’t like leather watch bands.  I like to wear my watch loose like a bracelet, which is pretty impossible with a leather band.

34.     I feel like I’m being choked when I wear a turtleneck.

35.     I don’t like beer.  At all.

36.     My knowledge of US history is terrible.  However, my knowledge of British history between the early 1800’s to the turn of the century is pretty good.

37.     I like it to be cool in the house when I go to bed and turn the electric blanket way up.

38.     I can’t stand to have air blowing directly on me – like car air conditioners, fans, etc.

39.     I have fainted one time.

40.     I have to put on lotion right after I wash my hands.

41.     I don’t like the feel of cardboard or newspaper.

42.     I always try to get all the groceries in one trip.

43.     When it’s warm, I love to sit outside and read.  Preferably in the sun.

44.     I love to sleep late.

45.     Really, I just love to sleep.

46.     I have two tattoos.

47.     I’ve been at my current job for seven years.

48.     My favorite color is blue.

49.     I prefer to eat out rather than cook.

50.     I’m halfway through this list.

51.     I’m a total worrywart when it comes to my dog.  Any wound, illness, or odd behaviour will make me call the vet.

52.     I tend to (unconsciously) use British spellings – colour instead of color, etc.

53.     I like to use a “coozy” on my soda cans.

54.      Whenever I try to type the word “lemonade”, I type “lemondate” instead.  Even just then, when I was consciously thinking of it, I typed lemondate and had to go back and change it.

55.     I color my hair (to cover the gray).

56.     I like to sing really loudly along with cds in my car.

57.     Except for my first car, all my vehicles have been Toyotas.

58.     My first car was standard shift.

59.     I don’t really like talking on the phone.

60.     The smell I hate most in the world is burned popcorn.

61.     I love flowers, but I don’t know much about them.  My favorites are daisies, lilies, and roses.

62.     My two girlfriends, Sarah and Melanie, and I, take a road trip together every year.  So far we have been to Chicago, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C.  This year we are going to Nashville.

63.     I have lived in Lexington since I was 5, and I’m happy to stay here forever.

64.     The furthest west I have traveled is Colorado.

65.     Countries other than the U.S. I have been to – Canada, Mexico, and England.  Do the Bahamas count?  I don’t know who they belong to.

66.     I hate the fact that I ended that last sentence with a preposition, but “I don’t know to whom they belong” sounds way to formal for this list.  I’m really fighting the urge to change it, regardless.

67.     I know a lot about the American Girl dolls.

68.     Every time a new Harry Potter is released, I re-read the entire series.  This gets more time-consuming every year. 

69.     I reread books I love lots and lots of times.  There are some books I’ve probably read 10-15 times in my life.

70.     I often wish I could see a list of every book I have ever read. 

71.     I get very affectionate when I’ve had too much to drink.

72.     I have had seven jobs in my life.

73.     I was in college for ten years.

74.     I refuse to read books or watch movies where animals are characters.  This is because there is always an animal that dies.  This bothers me more than when human characters in books or movies die.

75.     I’m very liberal, politically speaking (#20 might have clued you in to that).

76.     I can’t stand it when people conflate words in writing that are two separate words – for example, “alot” for “a lot.”

77.     I used to prefer metal needles to knit with, but I’m starting to like wooden ones better.

78.     I was raised Catholic, and even though I don’t regularly go to mass, I pretty much consider myself Catholic.

79.     I beat my whole school in the 5th grade spelling bee and got to go to the city championship.  I got cut on my second word.

80.     I’m not musically proficient.  I’ve attempted to play three instruments in my life – flute, trumpet, and piano.  I wasn’t very good at any of them.

81.     I have never struck anyone in anger in my life.

82.     My favorite movie is Moulin Rouge. 

83.     I put off going to the doctor until I am at death’s door.

84.     If I could change one thing about myself, it would be to have 20/20 vision.  I know you can get that with LASIK, but I’m very afraid of it.

85.     I’m very ticklish.

86.     I don’t like to take prescription drugs that aren’t antibiotic, such as painkillers.   I refuse to take mood elevators or sleeping pills.

87.     I like vodka drinks – cosmos, vodka tonics, gimlets.

88.     I’m going to be a bridesmaid for the first time when my friend Sarah gets married.  I’m very excited!

89.     My husband and I moved in together after dating for four months, then waited four years to get married.

90.     My best friend from childhood betrayed me spectacularly in college.

91.     I absolutely can’t stand the sound of fingernails being cut.  I have to leave the room.

92.     I’m knitting my first sock.

93.     I don’t have any children.

94.     I think it’s incredibly rude when people ask me why I don’t.

95.     I have a great relationship with my mother, and I pretty much always have.

96.     I never wear eye makeup.  When attend some sort of formal occasion where I feel like I need it, it takes several attempts to put it on before I feel like I don’t look like a clown.

97.     I wear my hair pulled back almost every day.  That’s because I usually sleep too late to fix it.

98.     In my job, I’ve gotten to meet lots of authors.  Some of my favorites that I’ve gotten to meet:  Barbara Kingsolver, Neil Gaiman, Bruce Campbell, Loretta Lynn, and Jimmy Carter.

99.     I keep my toenails painted year round.

100.        I often wish that some of the toys we played with as kids were available in adult size – sit and spins, big wheels, those bouncy ball things with the Mickey Mouse heads that you could sit on and bounce.  How awesome would that be?
